TECH SUPPORT FOR BLUE PRIDE
I started this thread so that any members who are having technical issues while using this site can ask questions. If I can provide an answer or a solution to your technical problem, I will. If I can't give you an answer right away, I'll do research and get back to you. Some people have asked about putting their own avatars into their profiles, some have asked about inserting images into their postings, as I have done here and there. Others have had problems logging in or activating their accounts. This is the area of the board where the questions should be asked. The problems so far have been minimal and hopefully it will stay that way. But...if there are any problems, ask away!

<<How do I get that eyeball to blink?>> Just keep staring at it for about a half hour... Now......here's how to add/insert an image into a posting: 1) Have your image available on your computer and make sure it's not too large. If it's too large, resize it. 2) You need to have it hosted by an image hosting service like imageshack.com or tinypic.com. I prefer tinypic.com because it's easier to use. Upload the photo to the hosting site. The procedure should be self-explanatory when you see the site. You'll see a small version of the pic when it uploads. You'll also see 3 categories: HTML, IMG and LINK. They'll show the URL for the photo you just uploaded. Copy the URL in the IMG section, complete with the symbol on either end of the URL. Then paste it into your posting, where ever you intend it to be within the post. Be sure to eliminate the dead space between the photo and the words that you're typing. Note: If the image is so large that it affects the layout of the message board, it will be deleted. Keep the photos to a reasonable size, please.

Haven't had much success inserting a pic into the body of a message yet, but will keep at it.
New Question:
How does one get a pic or an avatar into the far left "Author" portion (i.e. Adimn's eyeball and Bluepride's boxers) ?
Appreciate your patient assistance, Admin ... no computer wiz here!

The method for inserting an avatar into your screen name are is basically the same as inserting a photo into a posting. The only difference is you have to be logged in, and go to your profile. Click on your screen name and look for "Modify Profile". Along the left hand side, you'll see different categories. Look for the area where you can insert the URL for your own avatar. Have the image hosted at imageshack or tinypic or any other service that you want to use. Paste the URL into the area provided and go to the bottom of the page. Click "Modify Profile". You should be able to see your avatar after that. If anyone has any problems doing this, you can e-mail me the pic you want to use and I'll do it for you.

Oh most compasionate ADMIN, (aka: the most knowledgable and most hi-techy on high) ...
is it possible for one to post a music link, as one does a pic or web-page, through a hosting site?
I tried to post a link to a song on AOL Music, but the the actual link was too much; about six lines long!
Any suggestions?

My only advice would be to maybe upload the music link to tinyurl.com and see if you can get a shorter link to the music. But even then, it may not be successful. In checking with the support people, I've been advised that music links are basically impossible in postings.
BUT.....if your song has a music video attached to it, you could check sites like YouTube.com to see if the video is upoalded there. If it is, you can post the lnk within a posting area as we do to the video clips we have here. I'll keep trying to see if eventually music links would be possible. At this point it doesn't look like it can happen. I AM allowed to have some kind of music thing going in the background of Blue Pride, but I choose not to do it. It would be like some other sites that, when you bring the site up, music automatically starts. In my opinion, from other sites I've seen, that music is distracting. And anyway, these days people are online and listening to their own music anyway, whether it's internet radio, I-Tunes, CD's. So...no background music for Blue Pride...and links to individual songs are a no-go. Hey, this isn't MySpace!!!!! Maybe in the future, the powers-that-be will modify their servers so that music is allowed. I hope I answered the question here!!

First, let me say once again that I'm not a computer expert by any means. Anything I know about computers has been learned through trial and error and education from other computer users. But the most important thing I've learned (sometimes, the hard way) is that you have to be vigilant about maintaining your computer. You need to protect against viruses, spyware, adware, malware, trojans and a host of other problems that are unleashed by unscrupulous people using the internet. You have to maintain your computer as you would a car, in order to keep it running correctly. First, your browser. If you use INTERNET EXPLORER, you're just asking for trouble. It has a history of security breaches and holes. I switched to FIREFOX earlier this year and I'm glad I did. It's much more secure than I.E. Have an up to date Anti-Virus program. Keep it updated and run it on a regular basis. I use Nortons Anti-Virus but there are other good programs out there. AVAST is a good free program available on the internet. I use Ad-Aware Personal Edition to scan for and eliminate spyware. It's a very good tool use and it's FREE. Same thing with SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY. Excellent tool. SPYWARE BLASTER is another good weapon to have. You have to keep these programs updated. Not updating a program for months at a time only works against you. All of the programs I listed are available on the internet for FREE. There is NO excuse to not have them and use them. You have to make the effort to keep them updated but it's worth the few minutes it takes to do it. If you use Windows, try Windows Defender also. Scan your computer by using Scan-Disc and defrag your computer as needed. (These are Windows programs included with your computer.) This is a link for Download.com: www.download.com/ USE IT!!
