The hosts of this board have seen fit to move the ads into the middle of the postings from the top of the screen. I have no control over this even though I don't like it. Neither do the admins of other boards which have also been effected. We'll have to live with this situation, either permanently or until they move them back to the place they were before. Either way, the world doesn't stop turning and at best, it's a minor annoyance. But I'm on record as not liking it. Just thought I'd let you know before someone tells me about it.

Not the end of the world. It was a little confusing the first time I saw it, a couple of minutes ago, but it is easy enough to scroll past. Besides, like it or not, some body has to foot the bill for our cozy little asylum!

Yeah, I'd rather have that than a membership fee.

The ads may be back on top by sometime next week. True, it's better than a membership fee, although I believe I as the admin can make payments to make the board ad-free. I don't plan on doing that because for the most part, the ads aren't a big issue. In fact we had a little fun with one or two of them in the past. Yeah, it's a little frustrating that the ads break up the flow of some of the posts but again, not the end of the world. I will say this though: There are a few aspects of the board (the host company, not the members) that are beginning to frustrate me and p*ss me off. I may be reaching out to a couple of members and run some ideas by them as to some changes I've been thinking about. I'll try to keep everyone posted on this issue though. No worries!

I don't know if anyone has noticed but the board is ad-free at this point. I did pay for this service and it looks good so far. I think I'm able to have my own ads on here but I'm not even thinking about that right now. And this is just one change that has taken place. There will be something else happening in the next day or so. I will keep everyone posted!!!

You are paying to not have the ads? ?? Screw that. My a$$ is too cheap for that.

I had paid for the ad-free feature a couple of weeks ago, thinking that would also cover the fee for getting the domain name change. The rules were a little ambiguous so I later found out that that was not the case. So, now I purchased some "credits" which are NOT applied to the ad-free feature, but are going to be used toward the domain change. So now it's May and the ads are back. Not really a big problem as far as I'm concerned. I believe there is a patch that I can install to keep the ads on the top of the page (in the threads). I may try that. But overall, the ads aren't a big concern. Although I think the pages look better without them. So for now, ads are back. In the future....who knows? I'm more concerned with getting the domain name changed, as are a bunch of other admins from other boards. It could've been done about 2 weeks ago. It's pretty frustrating having to wait this long. Any day now....any day now....any day now....any day n.....zzzzzzzzzzzzz.... UPDATE: I just applied the feature that keeps the ads at the top of the page instead of in the middle, where it breaks up the flow of the postings.

After a lot of sweat and cursing, I've figured out how to embed "YouTube" videos directly into our postings. It wasn't easy (for me) but after I realized the mistakes I had made, I finally figured out what the hell I was doing wrong. So now I'm going to show you how to do it yourself. Just in case you feel like adding something once in a while. The code is set to accept three (3) videos per posting. This is what you do: 1) Upload your video (to YouTube). Or find whichever video you want to share and post (from YouTube). 2) Find the ID number in the URL www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwyyvdRfEnQ <-------The ID is in RED. You don't need the other info from the URL. 3) Copy it. 4) Click on YOU TUBE icon (in the area where you write your posts and add smileys, bold type, etc...) You should see this: (yt)I.D HERE(/yt) - change ( style brackets to [ style ones instead. I took the liberty of posting a YouTube video of our own nycgaycop from 1997. Just to show you an example of what I'm talking about. One other thing: When you see the posting either after you've posted the video or just in reading the post and you don't see the video screen, run your mouse over the area where the video should be. You'll probably see a white square appear. Click on that and it should activate the video. Let me know if you have any problems with this.

Oh, no!!!! Don't tell Jimbo about this!!!! I'm scared of the videos he will post. Or does this usage of code exclude videos from X-tube?

I'm more worried about what YOU would post!!! I don't think Jim would post anything untoward. Although you never know! I hope Jim isn't mad at us. I know it's been a slow summer here and people are busy doing other things but I hope he returns soon and keeps all of us in line!!
And I don't think the code accepts X-tube. By the way, I've never seen anything on X-tube myself. Was that NY firefighter with the large hose on X-tube? And I hope I'm not the only one who posts videos when they're called for! ;D

I added a code that puts either a small green check mark or a red x in front of each thread title. The check mark or the x is there depending on whether you've posted in the thread or not.
Just a little extra doo-dad that I've added. Let me know if there are any pros or cons about this feature!
