Trust me Burner, you aren't the only one with pet peeves or causes to gripe, moan and complain incessantly.
SO the last few days I have had to bike to work since my truck broke down...water pump failed and some other things about it...long story...
Anyways, in order to get to work I have to bike along some quasi-rural roads where the speed limit is 55mph and street lights only exist at intersections. In the last few days I have had people honking at me, flashing me with their brights and screaming out their windows as they fly by...like I'm going to hear them...
Normally I'd like this attention, but not while there is nothing between me the car and the pavement...
Another pet peeve of mine was when my truck broke down I'm sitting to the side of the residential road I'm on. People notice my brake down, but don't bother to stop and ask if I need assistance. Rather they slow down, stare at me like the deer in my head lights, and pass on by without a care. Some people even waved at me. I'm like "WTF??? Really??? Am I some kind of side show attraction???"
Eventually one kind soul stopped to ask if I needed help. I thanked him and told him I was fine and I was waiting for my tow.
I bet I would have had more people helping me had I been female, had a big chest and a rocking body...Don't mean to be sexist...but females do kind of get that attention from men...mainly because they are thinking with their other head...

(clip)... Tonight (July 4) I watched the Independence Day festivities from Washington (PBS), New York (NBC) and Boston (CBS). Each, of course, had someone sing the Star Spangled Banner. (clip)...
Few things piss me off more than some damned "diva" thinking that she and her "interpretation" of the national anthem can improve on the way it was originally written! I don't need wailing and screeching and improv when I listen to the anthem. I don't need it, I don't like it, I don't want it. And I'm all in favor of shooting any SOB who can't ... or WON'T ... sing it straight! And if it means digging up Kate Smith every year to do it right, so be it. I have a CD of Kate Smith recordings. Burner is right... singing the National Anthem straight is not easy. It requires skill... which is covered up by screeching and warbling all over the scale for those who do not have it. Hearing Kate sing the Anthem fills me with pride. Bear ____________

Oh Burner and Bear, you don't know the half of it. I've got a real pet peeve with that "Diva" Beyonce. I'm not impressed with her singing. In fact I could do without her. What galls me the most is the fact that every time I see her she gets lighter and lighter. Now she is sporting a european blonde wig. I suppose next, she will have a British accent and a small straight nose. Her eyes have already gone from dark brown, to light beige. I guess soon they will be blue. I don't know, perhaps It's just me. But I think that if you're born black, you should stay black !!! (I guess Michael Jackson had a different oppinion)

ROFLMAO Carroll. First time I'd ever heard Beyonce sing was, coincidently, on a July 4 celebration a few years back. I had no idea who she was back then, though she was the "headliner" for the New York City festivities. Well color me old-fashioned (no pun intended), but on the Fourth of July I like hearing the patriotic and Sousa music with my fireworks. The Boston Pops does it, the band that plays in D.C. does it, but in New York? The fireworks are going off, Old Glory is waiving in the wind, and as background good old NBC has, what I described in a letter to the editor as, this "booty bouncing bimbo" howling some "rock thing" I wouldn't even describe as music. Yes. You guessed it. Byonce. Having SAID that.....
When I heard her sing "At Last" for the President and Michelle Obama at one of the inaugural balls I was taken with the beautiful quality of her voice. Again, she's one who feels she must "interpret" the music, and I'm not much for that, but still the beauty of her voice did come through. I can only imagine if she did a CD of standards (standards meaning the music of the old fart generation...you, me and bear), and sang them straight, what a fantastic collection it would be!

I think this video would go perfectly here since you are talking about terrible singers....
Talk about originality.....
Here is to you well experienced lads
I think you are all right in performing a song like this in its original format, however there isn't anything wrong with an artist altering a piece to better fit his/her capabilities..as long as it is tasteful in doing so. I have seen too many artists butcher songs such as kid rock butchering Metallica....I have never been so disgusted by an artist in my life...next to Rebecca Black.

I get really bent out of shape when I hear these American Idol wanna be types butcher the National Anthem and God Bless America. I hear them all the time at ballgames and they make my skin crawl. And some of the singers actually have good voices but they choose to go the low road with their junk food versions of their vocal abilities. Just another example of the constant lowering of standards in this country and others. They need to get the message: "You Can't Sing". Now....Beyonce....First of all, the fact that she's hooked up with that low life Jay Z, ( who was a drug dealer at Marcy Ave/Myrtle Ave back in the day when I worked in the toilet of a project that he lived in. In fact, we probably locked him up.), takes away most of her credibility for me. Which is sad, because aside from being beautiful (without the blonde wigs and light makeup, etc...) she has a great voice. When used properly and not as a screeching, shouting machine appealing to 14 year old girls with no taste. For the most part, she misuses her God given talent which a lot of people would sell their souls to have. But....she intentionally chooses the low road. Think of what she could be. Oh well...you can take the girl out of the ghetto but you cant take.....well, you know....) A shame. She'll be a has-been within 5 years.... And my ears are bleeding after watching Kid Rock and Rebecca Black. They underscore exactly what I'm saying here.

Moi, being an old fart, uh, "curmudgeon-ette," I do try to keep modern, youthful and hip. Thus, I have racing stripes on my walker, wear Mickey Mouse suspenders and white diabetic socks with my summer sandals. I am thee very picture of Hunkdom! ;D However, the Mohawk hairstyle was a bit more of a challenge to complete the youthful package look, given the extreme sparing supply of white hair on the top of my head Bear _____________

I may despise certain artists and I may have my dislikes, the one thing I have learned is tolerance.
I may not like certain styles of clothing, attitude, whatever...however, it is a individuals unalienable right to pursue their happiness as long as their actions are within the confines of the law and do not infringe on the rights of others.
The way I look at it is Beyonce is marketing herself to her target market. Same with Kate Smith, Rebecca Black, Kid Rock, and so on. They have the right to do so and we have the right to complain...no one performer is going to please everybody...unless you are Gene Simmons who makes a real attempt to please everybody...
We, as the GLBT community, namely LEO/CJ, should know better than to tell people that "their way" isn't right...
This is not to say we don't have the right to complain...CUZ I LOVE TO COMPLAIN!!! and whine and moan and groan about a lot of things...

Oh honey trust me, I can't fix anything. The only thing I can do with my car is start the engine and point it in the direction I'm going. I got my car new in 1996 and from that day until now, I have never even looked under the hood. I have no idea what's under there and I'm quite happy to let the repair people take care of it. No matter what it costs, all I do is drive it in, they fix it, and I drive it out. I have no ability when it comes to fixing things. Even at home, I make sure that Stephen takes care of those things. If I pick up a hammer, I'll hit my thumb. The only thing I know how to screw is...Oh never mind !!! When the butch work needs to be done around our house, I go in the kitchen and make the coffee. Good luck with your truck. I hope everything works out.

Nice video. But when I said "low road" I was referring to singers not using their voices to their potential, if they have a good voice. See...Beyonce has a very good voice but sometimes she, as others, fall back on the screeching and other annoying things some of todays singers do. I think Beyonce's voice is better than Streisand's actually. ( How the hell did I end up in a discussion of Beyonce in the first place??!! She's totally not part of my reality.) But at the same time, she'll never even come close to Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald or even Etta James! No matter how many times she sings "At Last". Nobody can touch Etta's version. And the same goes for male singers today. I mean really.....does anyone think that Justin Timberlake or Justin Beiber or.......whoever the latest wannabe's are.....are really good singers??? Over time as I got older, I started listening to people I wouldn't have thought of listening to when I was a kid. And I developed a real appreciation of their voices and song craftsmanship. And I saw also that some who I liked when I was younger were simply not good. And I'm not just talking about rock singers. You don't have to have a great voice to do that! But, to each his own, I guess. You should try listening to some Sarah Vaughan someday. It'll change your life! She was amazing! Unfortunately I got into her (so to speak) just before she died in about 1990. But she recorded from the 40's up until shortly before she passed. Thank God her recordings will live forever. Sassy!

She is too "big band" for me. I prefer more current one or two instrumental bands; usually with a guitar, drums and/or piano.
And you are right, to each his/her own. Every one has their own taste and that is the beauty of today's artists. It is that you have SO many kinds of artists in so many genre's and their are new ones popping up all the time.
One recent artist that I'm getting into, so to speak, is Johnny Cash. I saw his last recording, "Ain't no Grave" and I was moved because this was his last piece as he was on deaths door steps. Their is a certain somber mood to it but with a hint of defiance and resilience. I, like him, am a stubborn mule, and I like that about Cash, he seems to be a hard, no non-sense performer.

<<This is not to say we don't have the right to complain...CUZ I LOVE TO COMPLAIN!!! and whine and moan and groan about a lot of things... >>You came to the right place!!!!! Take your rightful place among the rest of us! Now...... This is another video from Johnny Cash that you probably have seen. It was made less than a year before he died and you can see he was pretty frail in it. A painful song (no pun intended). And what is touching is that his wife June is in it, looking at him with love and concern for him. Not long after the song and video were released, she unexpectedly passed away. Then within a few months, he did too. Her death was too much for him and he couldn't live without her. His last recordings were intentionally simple and stripped down of extra instrumentation. And he was able to record songs that he personally loved and wasn't trapped by record company expectations. A very touching video.

Yes, very touching! I saw this not too long ago. Hurt was originally performed by Nine Inch Nails, the intro to the NIN cover is very unique in its own respect.
