OK I have been holding this in for awhile and I just can't take it anymore !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How about we share with one another some of our pet peeves ... OK .... I'll start ;D Just recently I was flying back and forth between Florida and New York and California and I must tell you ... either I am 1. becoming more perceptive or 2. I am getting older (& I didn't ask for your input thanks !) I am flying back from Fl. and the flight attendant asks me if I would be so kind to change my seat with another woman BECAUSE the woman couldn't FIT into the airplane seat - so I am asked to move but the kick is I am moved now to a middle seat not the window seat (which I always prefer) and do you know who / what is sitting in the window seat .... a BLIND WOMAN ... hey I have no problem with blind people - but come on ... why do they have a window seat. I had to assist the flight attendant when the woman was served her soda and snacks, helping her with the headphones all the while her face is looking out the window !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On another flight (to California) which lasted 5 - 6 hours...again I am in the middle (my g/f was on the aisle) and the woman sitting in my favorite seat (remember the window) slept the entire trip with the blanket covering her entire upper body ... including her head and EYES.... therefore see wasn't look out of the window. Last thing (for now)... babies on an airplane !!!!!!! I think when you purchase a ticket you should be told if there is a baby on your flight in order to give you the option of taking that flight or not. On my most recent flight (last Wednesday) a woman was sitting approx. 4 rows in front of me with her baby (maybe 1 yr old). In her row of 3 seats, it was her and another adult - the flight attendant MOVED her to the row directly in front of me ... which 1 person was already sitting in. From what I show and understood, the flight attendant moved the woman with the baby from 1 row that had 1 adult into a different row that had 1 adult !!!!!!!!!! So now when the baby cried it was LOUDER 'cos it was directly in front of me !!!!! OK next topic -- GOAL --- Over the last couple of years things about GOAL NY have been changed but the most recent change is driving me mad !!!!!!!!!!! First it was a president who did things her way: disregard by-laws, nepotism at its best; then executive board positions are left vacant; the GOAL GAZETTE is now a "newsletter"; after 23 years the Post Office Box is changed and finally what put me over the edge .... GOALS 24th AWARDS ... it is an ANNIVERSARY DINNER ... not an Awards Banquet !!!!!! I just can't take it anymore !! I guess the good old days are gone ! Whew ... thanks everyone.

Hmm...Pet Peeves, huh? Sounds like an interesting thread! We all have them, whether they're job related or not! To get things started, I'm going to list a few of mine!! But before I do, I have to say I sympathize with your plane trip, Levon. First of all, the heavy woman should've been in the baggage area under the plane where she belonged! And as far as the baby.....all little children should be anethisesized before the plane takes off. I can't stand crying babies near me when I'm flying! Now for a couple of my Pet Peeves (Volume 1): People who drive while talking on their cell phones (without hands free sets). People who fail to signal when changing lanes. People who ask me (especially work related) "Do You Know Who I Am?" <----- That one really gets me!!!!! You should be able to just shoot people like that!

Levon, you really stirred the pot. Thanks!!!!! I think this has the potential to be a wildly interesting thread. I'll give it some thought and post a few (Hell, those who know me know that I have an opinion on spit!) but for now I'll just "ditto" a couple of yours. So, she's too fat to fit in the seat she was assigned to? Tough! And what made the attendant think that the seat you were in would be any larger? I would have just said "Not my problem. No." And as to little babies on planes (or in restaurants, movie theatres, whatever) I'm with you. In the "good old days" when normal people could SMOKE ON THE PLANE, I'd always be asked at the check-in counter: "Smoking or Non-smoking?" and my answer would always be the same: "Non-children!" Bluepride wants to put the heavy woman in the baggage section; I say put the kid in the cargo hold. If it's good enough for a puppy......... Don't get me wrong, I like children. I just think the gestation period should be 14 years rather than 9 months.
Damn! That felt good.

14 years versus 9 months ... I like that. So you have to give pet peeves some thought .... hmmm.... I would have expected you to be burning up the keyboard.
I have another thought ... I don't know if it could be considered a "pet peeve" or just my bitchy critical self .... I am going to an "Awards Banquet" tonight for which I paid $140 (me & her), after looking at all the e-mails & the newsletter, I still do not know if there is going to be an open bar or a cash bar. Some people may wonder "does it really matter, if you want a drink have a drink". Well that's not the problem - the problem is wearing an outfit that doesn't have pockets to carry money (for those who know me know I am not a pocketbook girl). Another quirk I have about this "Awards Banquet" - is there a cocktail hour or right into the dining room; will there be dancing / entertainment ?!?!? In a nutshell, my pet peeve is an organization (& I use that word loosely) advertising an event and at the same time not telling anyone anything about the event !!!!!

No, Levon, the kitty isn't there because he's a "pet", he's there because he's "peeved"! But, he is a pet and he's peeved! So I guess he's serving two purposes here! Now......speaking of GOAL....not to be super critical (who, me?)....but, what's with all the typos and spelling mistakes on the website, the newsletter, the e-mails, the publications....? I think the word "proofread" is not in GOAL's vocabulary these days. For all the good they've been doing lately (finally!), this is a glaring problem. Of course, people like you and me are just probably chronic complainers to "certain people", but I don't care. But please, PLEASE, GOAL... check what you send out to members and the GENERAL PUBLIC! You make GOAL look bad when higher-ups in the NYPD and other organizations have to read things that look like they were written by an eight year old.

Ok.... Time for a little road rage...the good kind... mine! What is it with drivers who insist upon leaving four car lengths between them and the car in front of them when they're in city traffic or snarled in highway traffic doing 10 mph? Do they ENJOY letting all the other dorks pull in front of them (after which they drop back from THAT car to reclaim a four car-length distance)? Do they enjoy blocking those behind them who are unable to get their rear ends out of the intersection they've partially cleared? Do they do it just to tick me off?
What is it with drivers who are at the front of the line, stopped for the light, and wanting to turn left? Is there a reason they can't watch their surroundings and the traffic signal and be ready to make that left (safely) before oncoming traffic pulls forward? Is there a reason they remain 10 feet back from the intersection, left blinker flashing, waiting for the last oncoming car to drive through before even beginning to move into the intersection to make the turn? Is there a reason they can't pull into the intersection, wait, and make the turn as soon as oncoming traffic stops but before traffic from the cross street begins to move? Is there a reason they'll sit there while the light turns red again and not make the turn? Do they do it just to tick me off?
What is it with dorks who do 55mph in the left lane, lining themselves up with dorks doing the same 55mph in the center lane and making it necessary...if it can be done at all...for people to use the right lane for passing? What is it with people who insist upon driving in the center lane on the highway, doing the limit or less, when there is plenty of room in the right lane for them to join people doing the same speed? Big 18 wheelers are prohibited from passing in the far left lane, can't pass on the right because of other slow moving traffic, but the old fart in the middle won't move and give the guy a break. Do they do it just to tick me (and the driver of the rig) off?
What is it with drivers who are in such a hurry to get nowhere that they can't wait for the broken line to enter traffic from a highway's on-ramp? They will swerve around you (meaning me), cross the solid line, and 50 feet later put their brakes on because traffic is tied up. Do they do it just to tick me off?
And (I promise, this is the last one for tonight) why is it that when people find that they MUST double park, for whatever reason, they can't pull in close to the car at the curb but must leave enough room in between to fit a Wal-Mart's shopping cart? Of course this means they're not only blocking one lane, but their a** is extending out into another lane as well, making traffic a total nightmare. And of course here in NYC I just love it when that happens and standing five feet away are two "brownies" chatting away about who-knows-what! This they don't see, but let the parking meter go to violation just as the car owner is nearing it and watch how fast they move to "do their duty" and write a ticket. Of course, the worst offenders of the double-parking debacle here in NYC are the "traffic officers" themselves! I thought their job was to help keep traffic MOVING!!!!!
There! I feel better. Good night.
