I read the article on the car chase decision and watched the videotapes. Its about time they place the blame with the offender and not with the officer. The guy had plenty of time to change his mind and give up. When he was "boxed in" and then chose to hit the patrol car to get away would have been a good time to just give it up.
I get in a chase every couple of months, it seems. They are usually very short (mostly because my old car can't keep up well). However, I also know that it ain't worth me getting hurt/killed by chasing at 90-100 MPH down a twisty country road like we have here. I'll usually catch the ones that get get away later on.
Did you know in Alabama it is still a misdemeanor to outrun the police? It is a traffic ticket offense like reckless driving! Sad, but true. Most times a custodial arrest is made due to reckless endangerment charges.
"Fleeing or attempting to elude police officer. (a) Any driver of a motor vehicle who willfully fails or refuses to bring his vehicle to a stop, or who otherwise flees or attempts to elude a pursuing police vehicle, when given a visual or audible signal to bring the vehicle to a stop, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. The signal given by the police officer may be by hand, voice, emergency light or siren.
(b) Every person convicted of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than 30 days nor more than six months or by a fine of not less than $100.00 nor more than $500.00, or by both such fine and imprisonment."
We are hoping a new law in the legislature passes that makes fleeing in a vehicle a felony....especially if they run stop signs or red lights putting people in danger.

I love how the media and "witnesses" automatically blame the Police when a car chase goes wrong. As if the chasee has some sort of right to flee after a crime. Even if the original offense is just speeding. This law should be a help to cops all over the country. Finally, something goes our way!
Good to see you here after a long while Scott. I hope you and Jason and eveyone else in your area are ok after the tornadoes and monsoons and everything else that happened this winter and spring. I know this board was the last thing you guys were thinking of and rightfully so! Hope everything has settled down in Alabama and the surrounding area!

THANKS! Yep....all that stuff has died down. We are actually in a drought now. We've just been dealing with fights, shootings, armed standoffs, exploding meth houses, and domestics.....so, things are fairly calm now...lol Glad I don't work in a big city....much safer out in the sticks!

The exploding meth houses should be a blessing in disguise! Hopefully only the ones making that stuff are in there when they blow!

Well something really good and nice happened today. In a totally unexpected and unsolicited move, one of the members of this board did something for a family member of mine, who she has never even met. It was a very nice gesture and it was totally initiated by this member. A very nice surprise when I realized that she did it and I'm totally appreciative. And so are a few of my family members. One of those random acts of kindness you hear about ......thanks!!

This being Memorial Day, my heart was warmed by seeing flower wreaths at some of the street-side parks, honoring our war dead in the neighborhoods near where I live. It seems that in the last few years it's almost been forgotten, to honor those who fought for us. I'm really glad to see that our veterans are not forgotten. And you know that a good number of them were gay but never dared say it. Such a waste. I also watched the 1930 classic movie "All Quiet On The Western Front" last night. A very good movie about German soldiers in World War I. And for 1930....some of the guys in the movie were hot, hot, hot! Damn...there were a couple of hot mooses (meece?? is that the plural of moose?? ;D ) Lots of exposed chests and when they're swimming in the river, some quickly exposed butts!! 1930!!! Who woulda figured??!!!! Am I weird for liking this stuff??!! Anyway....Happy Memorial Day and always remember our troops!

A good chest or butt is just as good whether it's 1930 or 2007. It doesn't hurt to look!

ha ha...true, true....! After I finished watching the movie, I did a little research on it. As of 2006, only 2 cast members were still alive! If all of the main characters were still here, they'd be old as the hills now! I don't think they'd be as good looking as they used to be! But I had a few quick, harmless fantasies about a few of those old geezers the other night !!
