One of the teachers at my son's school stopped me the other day to thank me. I figured it was for being a cop since I take him on my way to work, but she was thanking me for being gay. Not something I expected to hear from a teacher at a Baptist pre-school. She told me that her son was gay and when word spread about me that it made it easier on him since he was "out" too. It made me feel good to hear that what happened to me helped someone else.

Oh yeah...congrats Carroll. You definitely deserve it. I haven't been around many activists...but you dang sure get my attention every time you speak. I have a feeling that thanks to you and a few others the GLBT cops of NYPD probably wouldn't have it as good if you hadn't stuck your neck out there just like Sgt. Cochran did. Speaking of political activists...congrats on the progress in MB Chris

Many of you I have not met, but you're family still the same....

Well, it's been an odd 23 hours. Last night just as I was hitting the sack, the super knocked on my door to tell me some one had busted out the window on my Durango. SO I went downstairs, and sure enough, the front passenger window was shattered, but everything inside was intact. If it was a attempted theft, the skell got spooked, or it may have just been a random act of vandalism.
That was the low point. The insurance company lasy was great on the phone, but it still cost me $160, and that's $90 under my deductible. I took a leave day and was able to get it replaced today with a minimum of hassel. But the good part was when I got home .
I ran onto a good buddy. He's a Sgt. on another department here in DC. He's out on medical leave and was in the neighborood so we got together for some coffee. Yes, coffee; he's straight. But he really is a good buddy. He knows all about me and I know all his stuff, current girl friend included. He's alomst like another (blood) brother.
I first got to know him on the street, but over the last couple of years we've gotten really close. If he weren't straight, he's physically the type of guy I would have tried to get into bed with, but that'll never happen, and that's okay. He's the kind of guy I can call at any hour if I suddenly need somebody to talk to and visa versa. He's also the kind of cop I'd want at my back is the sh*t ever hit the fan.
So after having to deal with the car headache, it was great running into Rich and just sitting and jawing for a couple of hours. Nothing spectacular, just a good way to end a day.

Perhaps the best thing that happened to me this weekend was that I somehow didnt crash out when a semi ran me off the road on I-80 in NW PA while enroute to Frozen. I was off the road and fishtailing at about 70mph. Luckily I avoided spinning out or flipping and kept it going and was able to get back on the road. I had to drive through a bad snowstorm in the central PA mountains as well on the way home as well. So here's for surviving the brutal PA highways!

In all seriousness Jon, I'm glad things turned out alright for you. You could've been seriously injured or worse in some godforsaken snowbound area of Pennsyvania. Then who would we pick on here??
