Unfortunately we have lost a few members since we began in 2005. And while we remembered them, we never had a spot specifically dedicated to our own lost friends. Now we do. It is my sad duty to report the loss of one of our members. He only posted a few times, the last time being in 2008. But he was an old friend to myself and others here. Gilbert died of a massive heart attack a day or two before Christmas. We're only learning of it now. He was only 45 and was the longtime partner of another friend, Tom who is retired from the NYC Department of Correction. On Blue Pride his name was gman. Back when I was active in that not to be mentioned organization, he would always offer to help me with carrying equipment, cleaning up the meeting room, lugging things to my car and things like that. Always smiling and a joy to be around. As I type this, his wake and funeral service are happening. I have a candle burning for him and I know the light is going to reach him in Heaven. That is where he is, I have no doubt. Sometimes, to just say someone was a great guy or girl is deeper and more meaningful than all of the flowery accolades and things people say when someone dies. Believe me, there are no really appropriate things to say at a time like that. So I say to Gilbert, "You were are a great guy!

Oh that's such a shame. I always have candles burning over the holidays, but tonight I'll light a special one in memory of Gilbert.
