Hi All,
I'm sure many of you have gotten nasty comments about police officers in the past ... usually things like: A bad thing happened to my sister-in-law's brother-in-law's, son's cousin twice removed, friend's friend ... ipso facto, all cops are bad.
Something happened to me this morning that absolutely frosted my a**. I was at the commuter rail station when I saw a local cop pull over a vehicle, then a second cruiser pulled up behind the first one. As I was walking to the commuter rail station, several friends started in on me: "You wouldn't give a ticket to a local would you?", "There's where our tax payers' money is going, why do they need two cop cars!", "oh look there go the goons throwing their weight around." , "Haven't they got anything else to do, go back to the Dunkin' Donuts down the street."
I got really angry, but was able to compose myself (I had NOT expected this at all and it hit me like a cannon ball). I put on my cop face and simply said, "when you walk a mile in my shoes I will discuss any of these issues and comments with you. Until then, save your ignorant comments." I then put up my hand up as one would do directing traffic, said "talk to the hand," an walked away.
Stepping back and making a general comment ... I am a cop and a fireman and am amazed at how many people hate cops and love firefighters. But, aren't they happy when cops return a pair or stolen diamond earrings ... Go figuah ...
Officer Rob.

I have lots of gay friends who are not LEOs'. One thing that really gets on my nerves is the fact that most of them constantly objectify gay officers. They make stupid remarks like, oh they're so sexy, the uniforms are hot, they really are my fantasy, they can cuff me anytime, it must ge fun to be in jail with those hot guys, do they wear their uniforms when they party?, bla bla bla.
Many of them would give anyting to be invited to one of our events or the annual conferences. Not because they respect us or because they want to support us and learn something. They only want to come because, in spite of what I say, they think we're having some kind of wild party. Either they hate us because of the historical conflict between law inforcement and the gay community, or they love us because they think we're all oozing with sex appeal. Go figure.

Sir ... you've got that right regarding uniforms. While I admire the uniforms, how I look in them and how my fellow officers look, I do NOT have a fetish for them. They are simply part of the job. Is it no different; really, than business office attire (but I guess people have a suit and tie fetish)? They'd sing a different tune when your pager goes off at 0200 and you've got to put on your vest, uniform, boots and utility belt (don't forget the keepers and hope you put enough of them on!) and be at a scene ASAP. At least it is easier with firefighting. One can roll the pants down the boots so you literally jump in them, pull them up, throw your suspenders on your shoulders while you are running for your jacket, grab the helmet which has your gloves in it, and out the door you go (doesn't matter what you have under it, and will admit to minimal articles of clothing on a hot summer night, I'm lucky if I have a jock strap! All right, all right ... TMI perchance?). Seriously, I've often wondered about these people with intense fetishes, and from whence they come. I'm not talking about a playtime whereby shoving someone on the ground and telling them to lick my boots; more like the sort who have SEVERAL complete uniforms in their closets ... and wear them ... where? do what with them? Quid Fit? ? Just my opinion and have no intention to start a flame war! Officer Hall.

"they think we're having some kind of wild party" Good grief... I may be a gay cop, but I'm married... so in reality I'm so celibate that I make the Pope look like a ho But if you're getting tired of people commenting that they think you're hot cause you're a gay cop, then feel free to have them cat-call me for a while ;D

tbgalileo said: I'm so celibate that I make the Pope look like a ho LOL! Cat calls are amuzing at first, but after a while it is like ... yeah right. I'm a little bit more than a @#$@#$()%*@#) in a uniform. I WILL admit that it does boost one's ego ...

haha.. yeah, people's comments can get really annoying!! They have no idea why we do what we do, but all think they are all smarter. How many times a day do I have to explain the difference between criminal and civil?!?! ahhh...sorry, that one drives me nuts. I also love traffic stops where women try to flirt or bat their eyelashes...cracks me up!! I feel like putting one hand on my hip and saying, "Sweetie, this is how you bat your lashes, and here's your summons."

Just remember - if you ever do that on a traffic stop, you better make sure that your in-car video is running and your mike is on, because I want to see the video posted on BluePride.

The thing with firefighters, in the public eye, is that there isn't anything they do that is bad. They don't hold people responsible for their actions. They don't take anyone to jail. They don't write tickets.
People would love cops if cops didn't have to enforce the laws! People only want laws enforced on people other than themselves and their friends/family.

Well stated, Jon! Enforcing the taking of responsibility for one's actions in accordance with law is indeed what it is all about. Bear __________________

Good afternoon all,
A few comments from previous posts: tbgalileo: considering your pix in your profile, you better send some of the cat-calls you get my way!
pjb8822: Dumb cops. That will always permeate societies' minds. In my academy class, I wasn't the only one with a Master's degree and most were in the process of getting a Bachelor's or had one. We had three school teachers as well.
Batting their eyelashes? Yeah, had that, too. I've had women unbutton their blouse and another lift their skirt. Wish they contested the ticket and claimed some-sort of sexual harassment and see how far they got (ok, ok ... in a fantasy). Our superiors don't know how lucky they are to have gay officers on the force. Had a guy who grabbed his crotch as well.
alarmallama: Ma'am, you crack me up! I want to see that video, too. Hmmmm ... do I see a youtube clip in the making including all of us. Yes indeed, guess what ladies and gentlemen, we cops can be humorous!
Regarding the video and the mike: It has saved the hide of a few of my colleagues in sexual harassment complaints -- you can't fake what had been videoed. I NEVER go out without it on.
hoosiercop and thebear4u: WELL PUT! Yeah, it's ok to go arrest that person down the street for smokin' dope, but don't arrest me for smokin'. I'm much more responsible than he is (joking in a way, but not really. I'm sure you've run into this "mentality &/or reasoning").
Enjoy the weekend all ... 'gotta work all day tomorrow. Everybody sing: Another Pleasant Valley Sunday ...
Officer Hall.

How many times a day do I have to explain the difference between criminal and civil?!?! ahhh...sorry, that one drives me nuts. Nice to see there are some commonalities of our profession that span across jurisdictional boundaries. This is also one of my biggest peeves. But, alas, I doubt that the general public will ever understand the difference. They've seen too much fake law enforcement on TV.

I've been tempted to make a recording of what to do in civil situations and just leave it with the RP's. But then I'd have to create an instruction manual on how to listen to it, staff a help line for those who still don't get it and then create a whole series of recordings on how live an independent life... I'm not bitter, promise!
