Well, you we all all know how easily the "F" word and the "Q" word are thrown around the lockerroom in hs, college, on the field, among most guys, espeically by the more aggressive ones... like Quinn. So, chances are that a slur here and there was thrown around.

Well, and if thats what he is about, I'm sure we will hear of more in the time to come. That Winslow guy that is Quinn's tight end, is a BIG old homophobe and homo-hater. He couldn't keep the comments to himself enough to not let it go public.

CHARLES BARKLEY'S ANTI - HOMOPHOBIA!!!
Former NBA superstar turned political expert Charles Barkley appeared on CNN’s sensational Situation Room last week to discuss his electoral love for Barack Obama. Surely former Republican Barkley wanted said appearance to be remembered for his pro-Democratic standing, but it’s his damning criticism of the GOP that makes headlines today, specifically the 44-year old’s description of “conservatives” as “fake Christians,” specifically with regard to gay marriage. Score! CHARLES BARKLEY'S ANTI - HOMOPHOBIA!!!Is Charles Barkley on target or what??!! It's nice to hear someone call the ultra right wing conservative "Christians" on the carpet without fear of offending them. They have no problem offending gay people so it's refreshing to hear honesty from Barkley! Some of these so-called Christians are the most un-Christian people out there.
And statements like Barkley's are like taking a big boulder out of the mountain of ignorance and homophobia out there. The more boulders taken away, the more progress we make. Slowly but surely, the mountain becomes just a small hill and eventually becomes flat ground. Kudos to Charles Barkley!!

Saints Linebacker Fujita Tackles Gay Marriage Scott Fujita is known for many things — being a "big white guy with the Japanese last name." as he says; his dedication to charities and community service; and, more recently, his unapologetic views on gay rights. Fujita was adopted as a child by his Japanese father and white mother, and he grew up in Southern California. Even though he is not ethnically Japanese, Fujita says he is Japanese in his heart. After a standout student-athlete career in high school, Fujita was recruited by the Ivies but decided to play for the University of California, Berkeley, as a walk-on player. After going pro, Fujita played for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys before settling down with the New Orleans Saints in 2006, the season the team returned to the Big Easy following Hurricane Katrina. Since then, Fujita said, he's found his second home. His team named him Man of the Year in 2009 for his charitable efforts for breast cancer awareness, adoption, and two local organizations, Adoption Services of Catholic Charities of New Orleans and the children's charity Angel's Place. Fujita made waves in October when he backed Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendan Ayanbadejo's support for gay marriage. Now, with the spotlight on him for this Sunday's Super Bowl, the 30-year-old linebacker isn't backing down. Earlier this week, Fujita talked to The Advocate about getting more pro athletes to open up about gay rights, and the possibility of alienating people by being so outspoken. link to article, 3 pages: Saints Linebacker Fujita Tackles Gay Marriage

I am particularly pleased and warmed by Scott Fujita of the New Orleans Saints, his views and his being a proponent of gay marriage. In testosterone-laden pro sports, it is not common for a player to be so verbally expressive.
Simple, isn't it?... that all the pros and cons and heated arguments on both sides come down to this: "That a big white guy with a Japanese last name" does not see his advocacy as being courageous... just, simply, "because it is the right thing to do."
Along with Brendan Ayanbadejo, Scott feels that, yes, there will soon be a third person to speak up... and a forth... and... Until such time that it is no longer reported because equal rights ARE the norm - and so commonplace in daily life that it is no longer "news."
In a previous post about gay rights / gay marriage, regarding the untimely death of Cpl. Dennis Engelhard and the issue of survivor's benefits for his long-time life partner Kelly Glossip, I was also pleased, along with BluePride, to see the message from Hilary (our own Alarmalama.) I've been in PM contact with Hilary, addressing another (personal and private) important issue often faced in our LGBT community. I honor Hilary for her hard work and her courage as well.
We certainly have an awesome group of talented professionals right here in our BluePride membership!

Posting this here because I didn't feel like starting an entirely new thread. I think it fits here anyway. And it asks the question....Is the B in LG BT, GL BT,etc, etc... just window dressing??? 3 Bisexuals Sue After Being Banned From Gay Softball World Series Three bisexual men are suing a national gay-athletic organization, saying they were discriminated against during the Gay Softball World Series held in the Seattle area two years ago. The three San Francisco Bay Area men say the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance in essence deemed them not gay enough to participate in the series. The lawsuit filed yesterday in U.S. District Court in Seattle accuses the alliance of violating Washington state laws prohibiting discrimination. The alliance organizes the annual Gay Softball World Series. Beth A. Allen, the alliance's attorney, said the lawsuit is unwarranted and that the three plaintiffs "were not discriminated against in any unlawful manner." In any case, Allen said, the alliance is a private organization and, as such, can determine its membership based on its goals. (clip) Hummm... "not gay enough"? Being the thoroughbred premium-quality California fruit that I am, I wouldn't have a problem "qualifying" in that regard. However, "not gay enough" seems like a pretty slippery slope to me. I wonder if perhaps they might require applicants to pass an accessorizing test? Had to share one more thought... I forwarded the article about the ball club to a friend in Sydney who is a flight attendant for Qantas and a total gym-rat-sports-nut GAY man. Terry wrote back...
"United we Stand Divided we Fall If you're Gay Friendly... Come Play Ball!"
Gee... that's about as nicely as I think it could be expressed! SMILES all around!

Edmonton baseball manager resigns after homophobic outburst The manager of an Edmonton semi-pro baseball team has resigned in the wake of a homophobic tirade directed at an openly gay umpire. Brent Bowers is out as manager of the Edmonton Capitals following an altercation with umpire Billy Van Raaphorst during a Golden Baseball League game July 31st in Orange County, Calif. The Capitals announced Saturday that Bowers, 39, had been suspended for the remainder of the season and fined $5,000 as a result of the episode. Raaphorst's official report of Bowers' ejection cited Bowers saying: "You know what I heard? I heard you are a (expletive) f---ot. The rumour from several managers and people at the league is that you are a f--. The report adds that Bowers hollered: "I ought to kick your ass, you f---ot." The Capitals announced in a news release that Bowers "had been relieved of his duties." But at a news briefing at Edmonton's Telus Field, Patrick LaForge, president of the NHL Oilers, which along with the Capitals, are owned by the Katz Group, said Bowers had resigned after he was suspended by GBL commissioner Kevin Outcalt at a meeting in San Francisco on Friday morning. Gay ex-NBA Player Amaechi: What Kobe Said Just As Bad As The "N" Word John Amaechi played five seasons in the NBA (between 1995-2003), becoming the first mainstream pro athlete to come out as being gay when he wrote his book Man in the Middle, in 2007. Today he discussed the brouhaha over Kobe Bryant’s fine by the NBA for slinging a homophobic slur at a ref on Tuesday. It’s too bad we don’t have more current or former pro athletes to go to when topics like this come up, and therein lies the problem. Saw an article in the New York Times [April 8, 2011] and am finally getting around to sharing it. Hey! Getting my income taxes done comes first . I'm going to post the link so any of you sports fans can read the entire article titled:
"Confronting an Enduring Taboo: A Web Site Provides a Rare Resourse for Gay Athletes" and let you check it out for yourself. Real interesting.
Just to give a thumbnail description of it, the piece is about a site called Outsports.com that's devoted to stories that "cover the nexus between gays and sports", in the words of co-founder Cyd Zeigler.
Here's the link to the NYT article:
www.nytimes.com/2011/04/08/sports/08outsports.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=Confronting%20an%20enduring%20taboo&st=cse
and here's a link to the outsports site:
www.outsports.com/
And even if you're not a sports fan, a trip to the site is worth it just for the eye candy! ;D
