Have you seen this show yet? It takes place in NYC in the late 60's. The show was created by David Simon (The Wire, Treme) and Richard Price (far too many NYC stories to list). James Franco plays two parts, twin brothers, one a con man and the other a working guy. The main characters are the hookers though, it shows their lives. One hooker is doing it on her own, pimpless, it will be interesting to follow her character. The working brother has a bar now which the mob helped im buy. It was a gay bar that was dying. He remodelled it and now it is the main place he works. Drag Queens and hookers hang out there. Some how I feel that there maybe a Stonewall moment coming.

I haven't watched any of it yet. Mostly because it is on at the same time as Ray Donovan (which is torturous to watch this season, BTW)...but I plan to catch up with it. I know someone who is involved with the show behind the scenes, so that's another reason to check it out, for me. I understand Maggie Gyllenhaal is in it, so for me that's a big negative. She was quoted years ago as saying we deserved 9/11, so she's dead to me. But I guess I'll hold my nose in her scenes, just like I do with Susan Sarandon on Ray Donovan. But I'd actually like to see this show.

I watched the first couple episodes. Tommy, FYI, Maggie Gyllenhaal is the prostitute that works without a Pimp. She definitely comes off as the smartest of the girls out there, to the point she is considering making porn movies herself and not just getting a one time fee to act in one. I think though, she is soon to get the snot smacked out of her by the one or more of the Pimps that are taking offense to her working solo, competing against their girls. They have shown a pimp confronting her twice about this so far that I have seen. The last episode I saw, she was bringing home movie projector or camera stuff. I like James Franco, but I have issue with how easily willing he was to absorb his brother's indebtedness to the Mafia without so much as being pissed off at his brother. The show is really playing up the rough and seedy side of NYC in the early 70's, where NYC got its negative reputation.
