Let's just hope he serves his sentences consecutively and stays in prison for a really long time. All in all, it's still a small measure of justice, everything considered, but at least he's out of society now. Maybe it will help you and your ex have a somewhat merrier Christmas than you would've had otherwise. He doesn't deserve to be among society. And your son's surrogate uncles and aunts, here, are relieved and happy for you.

Scott, that's great news. Do you know how much time he got? Manslaughter 15.5 years Assault 2nd 7.5 years Total of 23 years...think he is elligible for parole in 1/3 of that time if I am not mistaken.

Sad thing about our system....you may avoid having to relive everything during appeals, but each time he's up for parole it will be brought back to the surface. But at least when it does, we all will be here for you to lean on!

I just read through the entire thread and I can't express how sorry I am - not just for your loss but also for being made to feel like a "negative" or even the very idea that your existence might somehow impede your son's justice. For a first-world nation we sure do have a ways to go. I can't imagine someone telling me my son's killer might go free if I sat at the table with his mother.

Not to toot Blue Pride's horn but this is what the board is all about. No matter where we live and/or work, we're all here for each other. Scott's case is a perfect example. He and his ex have gone through some things that no one should ever have to go through. And of course, we're all in their corner. In good times and bad, we all gotta stick together, and we do. I just wish the mope got even more time. Hopefully, he'll have a bad disciplinary record in jail and his sentence will be extended, with no parole.
