I only took 2 Tylenol with codeines yesterday and none today. Didn't need them. I feel a lot better since yesterday, surprisingly enough! No pain at all!

A Police Officer was shot (luckily he was only struck in the arm) in Ferguson, Missouri yesterday. I'm just reading it, so, sorry about the "Today" part of the category this is under. I wonder what that officer could have been doing that someone needed to protect themselves from the officer, enough to have to shoot him?? I'm sure it had nothing to do with the "unacceptable apology" the family of Michael Brown received yesterday.... I know it would not happen because law enforcement won't just walk off the job, but I would love to see every officer in that city walk off the job and see what kind of third world country that little town would turn into then. Even with law enforcement presence, they loot and burn. I would bet even the majority of the media would decide that it might not be a safe place for them....

I thought this was over. But out of sight.... I hope the officer recovers soon. I am not sure about the community, a big fence?

At this point, I'd say carpet bomb the whole town. I'm so pissed off at the entire situation there. Some of the burned out businesses there have already said they won't rebuild or reopen. You know what??? GOOD. Because you know....Nothing says "social justice" like fire bombing the local Walgreen's. And you know how cops just wake up in the morning and go to work to intentionally kill people indiscriminately. The levels of ignorance being displayed by some members of the public and by some idiot politicians are astounding. And some of the worst offenders are living in the District of Columbia and they are intentionally trying to taint the case. (I know I got slightly off the shooting of the Police Officer the other night but I had to vent.)
Maybe this and other situations should be discussed more here. I have friends and co-workers of every color planted six feet under all for doing their jobs and in the course of protecting their own lives and the lives of others. Nothing....NOTHING will make me fault a well meaning Police Officer for doing anything to protect him or herself or the citizens of any town or city. It's like that saying in real Law Enforcement circles...."If you haven't served, you wouldn't understand". And I certainly discount the ravings of some of the usual "professional victims" out there. Some people just l-o-v-e calling themselves victims.

Can they just put a fence around Ferguson, pull out all Law Enforcement and let the citizens learn the meaning of law and order

These assaults on Law Enforcement Officers don't seem to be slowing down any. What is it going to take to reverse this trend, or are we just going to be expected to be future targets?

Dale, they have to stop. The creep killed himself, a person known to cops. He was an ex-oilfield worker (I found his FB page). He has two girls with different last names.
Anyway, one officer was released from the hospital. The other is in grave condition, bullet hit his head.
Canada doesn't see too many cop shootings, but Moncton last year and Mayerthorpe a few years back have shown we have changed.

I've been kinda off the grid here for the last week or so. Jury duty, family stuff and now a touch of bronchitis. I hate winter. But I'd heard this incident but I didn't follow it as closely as I usually would have. Last I heard, the officer's family was preparing to say goodbye to the more gravely wounded guy. It's that bad. The question is how long are incidents like these going to go on? We've been having a really bad 12 months or so. All over the country and Canada as well. While we're getting a lot of "support", the shootings continue. Let's hope that this wave of anti-police violence dissipates and things get more peaceful. As everyone says, "Heads on a swivel", though. (If I'm scarce in the next few days, bear with me. Trying to get rid of this bug. I fu*king hate winter.)

I hate to say this but this has been a really bad day for me. I woke to the news that a long time, well respected and loved detective Sergeant that I've known for 30 plus years suddenly passed away last night due to a massive heart attack. As if that wasn't bad enough, he was the most senior member of the NYPD at this point and was scheduled to retire due to turning 63 next month. He was one of the smartest, sharpest, dedicated and professional Police Officers that I and a lot of others have ever met. He was highly decorated and had been instrumental in solving some of the most notorious cases that this city has ever seen. I first knew him as a Detective and later, he was promoted to Sergeant. He was assigned to the same command as me and we worked together for almost a year. When you get promoted to Sergeant, you have to do uniform patrol for at least a year before being re-assigned back to the Detective Bureau, if that's where you came from. There was an exception made for him due to his expertise. The Bureau was fiending for him to return because his brain was so needed! In all my years I've never heard a bad thing said about him ever. We just reconnected about a week and a half ago as well. He was right at the finish line of his career and now he doesn't get to enjoy retirement. And his loving family gets so short-changed in all of this. Some things are so not fair. It's been a terrible day for me.

Pretty annoyed that I'm having a couple of computer issues....along with some internet issues on top of that! Don't laugh but I still use AOL for a few things. And for the past 2 days I haven't been able to open it, which made it difficult to take care of some personal business. I'm on my laptop right now. If I don't get a handle on things soon, I'll have to install AOL on my LT, which I don't want to do. But I may be forced to, at least temporarily. Bare with me!
