My favorite line from last nights Southland was when the gay cop was in the bathroom with the drug pusher and he said.... "Get out of here before I unload a barrel full of whip ass on your head" I have GOT to remember that line the next time one of those Florida rednecks get in my face!!!!
It's a shame that he went back and bought some pills from the pusher later in the show. He seems addicted to pain pills. I'm also amused at how the rookies mother can't bother to lock her front door dispite the fact that there is a murderous gang in the neigborhood breaking into homes. DUH!!!!!

The New York Times carried a story on Monday (10/12/09) indicating that the network was cancelling "SOUTHLAND". From the article: "Producers of shows that have in the past, and could in the future, fill the 10 p.m. hour on several networks are using words like 'complete calamity' and 'utter disaster' to describe the current state of NBC... "One producer of several hits lamented the overall absence of a 10 p.m. opportunity for new dramas, saying NBC was formerly the place where the most innovative dramas on television - from 'Hill Street Blues' to 'E.R.' - found a home. "On recent example was the new police show 'Southland,' which was NBC's best-reviewed drama in years. In the past the network might have waited for it to build an audience based on its quality; but last week NBC announced it was cancelling the show." The full article is here: A Debate About Whether Leno’s Show Is Good for NBC - NYTimes.com NBC must have a death wish. Other than its Law & Order franchise it has had nothing but crap in the last 10 years...with few exceptions. One of those exceptions was JAG, which it cancelled after one season ('95-'96). CBS picked it up and it ran for another nine years, fading after the 2005 season, but not before it spun off "NCIS", currently CBS's highest rated drama (and it, now, has its own spin off, NCIS Los Angeles, which is pulling in the ratings). Then there is "Medium", also highly rated, which NBC premiered in 2005 and cancelled last year. Once again CBS has picked up an NBC cast-off and it seems to be holding its own so far. And now NBC goes ahead and cancels "Southland."What IS IT with the mindless baboons residing at 30 Rock? Do they enjoy being in the cellar? CBS has so many fine shows, high quality, high ratings, that they don't have room for all of them! In order to slot in "Medium" they were forced to put "Flashpoint" on hiatus until they could find another time slot for it. ( "Flashpoint," which is inspired by the real-life Emergency Task Force of Toronto, Ontario, is still being filmed and will be carried this season on Canada's CTV; CBS has but to find a space for it on American television, and I hope they do.) NBC continues to be a lost cause (damn it, that's one reason my G.E. stock is in the toilet). Those of us who found "Southland" to be one of the better shows from last season can only hope that CBS can find room for it, too.

Well, we've pretty much come to expect that a good show is usually bound to be cancelled without it being given a chance to really catch on. This is no surprise. It had lots of potential and the gay character had already showed himself to be one of the best characters on the show. And it get's cancelled for what?? That loser of a show with Jay Leno. A watered down version of his Tonight Show which wasn't very good either. The only good thing about Leno's show is when he has Jim Norton on it. Other than that, it's drek. Hopefully, Southland will end up on another network. One with balls.

UPDATE: "TNT brings back canceled NBC drama 'Southland' "
"Cable network TNT says it has rescued the shot-down NBC cop drama "Southland" and will bring it back in the new year.
Beginning Jan. 12 TNT will broadcast all six episodes that were shot by NBC for its aborted second season, as well as the seven episodes from the first season."
Info taken from wire services and published in newspaper on 11/3/09.
Not only will we get to see new episodes but, for those who missed some of the originals, we'll get the chance to catch up. It's nice to get GOOD news for a change!

Yeah, I'm waiting to see how they develope the Cooper character. Even though the audience knows he gay at this point, they still haven't address if anyone else on the department knows about him.

I'm glad to see that this show is back on the air even if some of the shows are repeats. There will be some previously unaired episodes coming up if I'm not mistaken.

There's going to be a LOT of repeats. In fact it was planned that way. When TNT picked up the show it said it would start from the very beginning by airing the entire first season (that aired on NBC) plus the six filmed episodes that NBC did not air. In the meantime TNT would be shooting new episodes for a "second season". It's a great show and even watching repeats is better than some of the other fare that's being aired on the networks.

I hadn't realized that they were going to film new episodes. This is a plus!

OK, people. Listen up. Here's the news we've all been waiting for. Well, at least Hcsodale and me, anyway. "SOUTHLAND" will be back with a new season starting Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 10:00 p.m. EST on TNT. I'm looking forward to Michael Cudlitz getting another year older and another year better...and maybe seeing his character getting a little more out of the closet.
